This V1 complete with warhead was discovered just north of Dahnen, Germany, on the embankment of a railway. Photographed by American forces on 22 February 1945. (John Glascock, www.jajg.com)

A snapshot in the author’s collection of a V1 in its final moments before impact. This is thought to have been taken in the Liège area. (Author collection)

This V1 crashed shortly after being launched from a site at Fontaine-sous-Preaux, near Rouen, France. (Author collection)

Any facilities identified as being connected to the V-weapons were potential targets for bombing. This meant BD personnel had not only to deal with abandoned V-weapons in the area, but also unexploded bombs left over from Allied raids. An unidentified V1 ramp smashed by bombing (above) and the V1 storage and launch site at Siracourt, France (below), give some indication of the intensity of some of these bombing raids. Siracourt never actually became operational and some have suggested that it was really just a decoy site. (Author collection, The National Archives: ref. AIR 40/2524)
